Dr Ron: “MRSA stands for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. It is bacterium often responsible for difficult-to-treat infections in humans. It is often resistant to a large number of antibiotics. In hospitals, patients with open wounds, invasive devices, and weakened immune systems are at greater risk to infection than the general public. MRSA is often sub-categorized as community-acquired MRSA (CA-MRSA) or hospital-acquired MRSA (HA-MRSA).”
“The new drug resistant CA-MRSA strains have become a common cause of skin infections in urban areas of the United States. These strains also commonly cause skin infections in athletes, prisoners and soldiers. However, in a 2002 report about CA-MRSA, many cases were children who required hospitalization.”
“The MRSA virus can be picked up on any surface that is infected which is different to the influenza virus that is predominantly skin-to-skin. Proper hand cleaning reduces transmission.”
We acknowledge how difficult it is to ensure your children are washing and drying their hands sufficiently, however Albany Healthy Schools can help provide hygienic and safe school washrooms to prevent such infections and illnesses, giving you total peace of mind when the little ones are out of sight.
