As much as a trip to the toilet is a private and often gratifying experience, it is still generally a taboo subject. Toilet humour, for example, can so easily divide a group, stop a conversation and occasionally offend, but undoubtedly will be embedded in our comedic society for many years to come.

How long we spend on the toilet, and more pertinently, what we do on the loo is central to anecdotes among friends and family, however Yorkshire Water has recently launched a rather amusing poll to find out from its customers what they get up to on the loo! Yes, that’s right, a public online poll to determine what ‘other’ activities are performed while sitting on the toilet.

As you can see, the results have hardly unearthed any strange or illegal habits (be honest: have you ever done any of above?!) What they have done, however, is highlight how long we must be spending daily on our thrones – The Times crossword can take a few head scratching hours to complete , People appear to be extremely ignorant to the importance of hygiene, hence the range of activities that are performed whilst on the toilet.

All four of these activities, particularly eating on the loo which is highly unadvisable, are simple and effective ways to transport germs. If you don’t wash your hands properly or at all, your mobile phone and laptop play host to ‘hot spots’ where germs will freely breed, spread and enjoy themselves.

We appreciate that everyone has the right to do whatever they want when on the loo, but we can’t stress enough how crucial it is that you’re washing and drying your hands sufficiently. The workplace in particular is susceptible to germs and potential health implications, including food poisoning and respiratory problems, as so many people act as ignorant hosts and carriers.

Our washroom solutions are designed to raise standards in the UK’s washrooms, as well as ensuring that whatever you do on the loo, your hands are clean and germ free! Now, where did I put my newspaper…?
