Our friends at Bog Standard, the campaigning arm of ERIC (Educating & Resources for Improving Childhood Continence) are unequivocal in their fight to boost provisions and access to school toilets in the UK. A recent survey, cited by ERIC, has highlighted some rather alarming statistics among our schools and we now wanted to share them with you:
- 43% of school toilets were ‘smelly’.
- 50% of pupils regularly avoid going to the toilet and wait to they get home
- 1 in 4 schools did not have sufficient locks on doors
- 1 in 3 schools had no or insufficient toilet paper
- 23% did not have warm or hot water, while 14% did not have cold water
- 31% of toilets had no soap
Albany Healthy Schools supports Bog Standard and ERIC’s mission in affording school children constant access to clean toilets. No child should ever be subjected to fetid toilets and deprived of provisions such as soap and toilet paper, as well as toilet seats and locks.
Our holistic schools hygiene advice aims to improve school sanitation and hygiene standards, which will help reduce sickness, absenteeism, waste, carbon footprint and cost.
